On 19 March, Istanbul’s mayor, Ekrem İmamoğlu, was detained on charges including corruption and alleged ties to terrorism. His subsequent arrest sparked nationwide protests—the largest in over a decade—with over 2,000 people detained including students, journalists, women and LGBTQ+ activists. Authorities used tear gas, rubber bullets, and water cannons unlawfully to disperse demonstrators, it was also reported that there has been sexual harassment, physical abuse during the mass detentions. Social media platforms faced restrictions, and journalists covering the events were targeted.

At our next open Kurdistan circle we are going to talk about what has been going on at the protests from a feminist perspective with the attendance of our friend, who was active within the movement as a Kurdish feminist lawyer who recently moved from Turkey to Germany.

The event will be in english!
