From 7.00 pm, we’ll be watching a film. In partnership with the MOVEIT! International Human Rights Film Festival, we’ll be screening the documentary “I, Poppy”.
For decades, a farming family in Rajasthan has been growing poppies for medical morphine thanks to a government licence. But their son, Mangilal, is no longer willing to put up with the arbitrary behaviour of the drug authorities and the poor pay. His fight against corruption leads to disaster: the family loses its licence and, with it, its livelihood.
“I, Poppy” powerfully illustrates how Mangilal’s defiance exposes the deep-rooted institutional power structures in rural India – but also how political activism can become a severe test for one’s own family.
“A multi-layered and honest film that masterfully depicts one of India’s greatest conflicts.”— DOK.fest Munich
Entrance is free, but donations are welcome!
We look forward to seeing you!
