Die Einführung der Wehrpflicht prägte und prägt ganze Generationen (vor allem) junger Männer bis heute, allerdings nicht klassenlos einheitlich. Ralf Buchterkirchen geht der Frage nach, welche Auswirkungen die allgemeine Wehrpflicht auf Gesellschaft hat(te) und wie sie sich in der Bundesrepublik (und der DDR) darstellte. Ausführlich wird auf das neue Wehrpflichtgesetz eingegangen und werden Wege zur Verweigerung und zur entsprechenden Verweigerungsberatung aufgezeigt sowie Aktionsmöglichkeiten diskutiert.

The introduction of compulsory military service has shaped — and continues to shape — entire generations of (mostly) young men, though not in a classless or uniform way. Ralf Buchterkirchen explores the question of what effects general conscription has had (and still has) on society and how it manifested in the Federal Republic of Germany (and in the GDR).
The talk will take a detailed look at the new conscription law, outline ways to refuse military service and provide guidance for conscientious objectors, as well as discuss possible forms of activism.
Ralf Buchterkirchen works on topics related to masculinity and the military and is a national spokesperson for the German Peace Society – United War Resisters (DFG-VK).
