Was ist eigentlich Prosfygika?
In der Community of Squatted Prosfygika leben 400 Menschen in 8 Häuser Blocks in selbstorganisierter Form mitten in Athen. Es leben Familien, Einzelpersonen, Kinder mit verschiedenen sprachlichen, kulturellen, religiösen und politischen Hintergründen miteinander. Um den Bedürfnissen der Bewohnenden zu begegnen wurden eigene Strukturen (z.B. eine Bäckerei und eine Kindertagesstätte) geschaffen und dauerhaft angepasst. Doch die Strukturen, die aufgebaut werden richten sich nicht nur an die Bewohnenden sondern gehen darüber hinaus, so auch eine Unterkunft für Patient*innen und ihre Begleitpersonen im nahegelegenen Krebskrankenhaus und ein Gesundheitszentrum.
In der Gemeinschaft wird ein Netz horizontaler Beziehungen aufgebaut, um der vorherrschenden Kultur von Wettbewerb,
Unterdrückung und Individualisierung entgegenzuwirken und eine kollektive Kultur sowie eine Politik des Lebens und des Kampfes zu fördern.
Was passiert gerade in Prosfygika?
Nun soll diese Gemeinschaft geräumt werden, sodass die Häuser durch die Region von Attika mit EU Geldern renoviert werden und damit die Gentrifizierung in der Nachbarschaft vorangetrieben wird.
Dagegen wehrt sich die Gemeinschaft auf verschiedenen Wegen. Zwei Genoss*innen befinden sich aktuell im Hungerstreik bis zum Tod für die Verteidigung des Lebens.

What exactly is Prosfygika?
In the Squatted Community of Prosfygika, 400 people live in eight blocks of houses in a self-organized manner in the heart of Athens. Families, individuals, and children from diverse linguistic, cultural, religious, and political backgrounds live together. To meet the residents’ needs, their own structures (e.g., a bakery and a daycare center) were created and continuously adapted. However, the structures that are being built are not only intended for the residents but extend beyond them, such as housing for patients and their caregivers at the nearby cancer hospital and a health center.
Within the community, a network of horizontal relationships is being built to counteract the prevailing culture of competition, oppression, and individualization, and to promote a collective culture as well as a politics of life and struggle.
What is happening right now in Prosfygika?
Now this community is set to be evicted so that the houses can be renovated by the Attica region using EU funds, thereby driving gentrification in the neighborhood.
The community is resisting this in various ways. Two comrades are currently on a hunger strike to the death in defense of life.
