SUMMARY:Autoritarismus und Gewalt im östlichen Europa
DESCRIPTION:Autokratien sind weltweit auf dem Vormarsch. Im Vergleich zu De
 mokratien dominieren sie inzwischen als politische Systeme. Das östliche 
 Europa bildet dabei keine Ausnahme. Neben den zentralasiatischen Staaten w
 ird auch Russland nicht erst seit dem Angriffskrieg gegen die Ukraine auto
 ritär geführt. In Ungarn baut Viktor Orbán Demokratie und Rechtsstaat s
 ystematisch ab. Und auch in der Slowakei geht die Regierung unter Robert F
 ico gegen unabhängige Medien und zivilgesellschaftliche Organisationen vo
 r. Unter dem Titel "Autoritarismus und Gewalt im östlichen Europa" greift
  die DGO-Jahrestagung 2026 diese Entwicklung auf und nimmt unterschiedlich
 e Formen autoritärer Regime in den Blick. Dabei geht es um deren Funktion
 sweisen\, um spezifische Gewaltkulturen\, aber auch um die Attraktivität

  and Violence in Eastern Europe\nAutocracies are gaining ground globally. 
 In comparison to democracies\, they are now the predominant forms of polit
 ical system – and Eastern Europe is no exception in this respect. Along 
 with the Central Asian states\, Russia is also under authoritarian leaders
 hip\, not only since the start of its aggressive war against Ukraine. In H
 ungary\,  Viktor Orbán is systematically dismantling democracy and the r
 ule-of-law state. And in Slovakia too\, the government under Robert Fico i
 s clamping down on independent media and civil society organisations. Taki
 ng “Authoritarianism and Violence in Eastern Europe” as its theme\, th
 e 2026 Annual Conference of the German Association for East European Studi
 es will explore this development and look at various forms of authoritaria
 nism – how these regimes function\, their specific cultures of violence\
